Brass Roots: Music, Memory, and Community
Research and Curatorial Co-Lead – 2025

Partnered with the Orillia Silver Band to deliver an evening program combining live performance and historical interpretation, highlighting the role of community-based music in preserving local heritage. Co-led research into Orillia’s history, developed interpretive materials, and curated a cohesive narrative that integrated archival content with a live musical suite for a public audience.

Gordon Lightfoot Permanent Exhibition
Installation Assistant – 2025

Coordinated closely with History Coordinator Hannah Arndt and Alayna Muzzell on the installation of treasured artifacts belonging to Gordon Lightfoot and people in his life, including decisions around placement and exhibition layout. Worked as part of a curatorial team to present key items such as Lightfoot’s annotated US concert map, a mid-1970s Fender amp, RPM Gold Leaf Award, and personal clothing, within an immersive narrative exploring his life, career, and deep connection to Orillia.

Heritage In Hues: Orillia’s Story Through Textiles
Research and Curatorial Co-Lead – 2024 – 2025

Heritage in Hues at the Orillia Museum of Art and History celebrates Orillia’s community and heritage by exhibiting textiles from the museum’s collection. Organized as a rainbow, each colour in the exhibit represents selected pieces that highlight Orillia’s community and its evolving identity as the Sunshine City. This journey through time showcases textiles crafted by artisans and craftsmen, celebrating the city’s rich textile heritage. Heritage in Hues illustrates the connection between the past and the present, fostering a space that inspires contemporary creativity and honours Orillia’s heritage.

Fascinate

An Exhibition of Work by Tyler Durbano and curated by Francisco-Fernando Granados

Curatorial Assistant 2024 – 2025

Provided comprehensive curatorial support for the planning, preparation, and installation of Fascinate, an exhibition by Barrie-based Queer visual artist and Interim Artistic Director of the MacLaren Art Centre, Tyler Durbano. Assisted with the physical handling and mounting of artworks; prepared exhibition spaces; and collaborated on layout decisions to ensure curatorial vision and artist intent were realized. Additionally, led community outreach and public engagement with local queer communities, LGBTQIA+ organizations, and Pride groups across Simcoe County, fostering inclusive partnerships and amplifying regional queer representation in the arts.

Dual Perspectives: Art In Conversation
Co-Curator – 2024

Assisted with the curation and installation of an exhibition that paired works from the Georgian College Art Collection with contemporary pieces by faculty from the School of Design and Visual Art, including Nic Rodrigo, who created the mask below. Responsibilities included artwork handling, condition reporting, spatial planning, and mounting, with a focus on creating visual and thematic connections between historical and contemporary works. Collaborated closely with co-curators and artists to ensure the exhibition’s narrative was effectively communicated and to ensure the overall success of the show.

Assisted with the installation of works for a collaborative exhibition by Linda Zhang and Biko Mandela Gray, including artwork handling, placement, and spatial arrangement. Contributed to the physical creation and assembly of exhibition zines for the opening and gallery display, supporting both the conceptual presentation and visitor engagement.

An Exhibition of Work By Aylan Couchie

Installation and Curatorial Assistant – 2024

Supported condition reporting and installation of artworks by Aylan in our inaugural exhibition. Collaborated with a student team to design and execute lighting for a display case featuring pieces crafted by Aylan’s grandfather, ensuring both effective presentation and preservation. This project marked our first collective curatorial and installation effort, establishing foundational skills in exhibition design and teamwork.
